Random. Funny … it seems to be the new in thing with the kids. Overhead in the last week: “Cori, you’re so random.” “I’m just random like that.” and “Why can’t more people just be random?” And as I sit to write my Random Tuesday post, I remembered those random quotes. Wonder if any of the other Random Tuesday participants were able to get the word ‘random’ in this many times in five sentences?

~ I’ve mentioned Elizabeth before. I’d like to share with you two emails from her. Is it just me, or couldn’t she have said a lot more with a lot less? She just cracks me right up!
Debbie, Attachment is required to conclude the Data Call pertaining to Deferred Maintenance schedules. Please print on letterhead for my signature as Custodian. After I sign, need imaged copy to transmit to xxxxxx by COB today. Note: You may see a line in the text which presumes the use of incorrect grammar. Please do not change the verb ‘has.’ It is correct. The verb agrees with the subject of the sentence NOT the object of the preposition, i.e., items (subject) have been verified! Microsoft flunks English 101! Thanks. EE
and
Debbie, Attachment provides (edited) memorandum which both I as Custodian and xxxx as PAO must sign prior to Agency submission for completion of subject Action Item. I request your help in coordinating with xxxxxxx or whomever to obtain xxxxxxx signature. I will not be in the office tomorrow (9/24), but will sign the memorandum early Friday morning. If this request is not within the scope of your duties, please advise. Likewise, please advise me of any impediments you foresee to obtaining Ajay’s signature on Friday 9/25. Status/challenges/constraints have been briefed to xxxx and we are to proceed with concluding Division’s response to the Action Item. Imaged copy has been acceptable for past submissions to Agency Property (name). Therefore, re-transmission to me of memorandum bearing xxxx’s signature will suffice. Transmission to xxxxxxxx, et al. should close the Action Item as scheduled. EE

~ Someone took my parking spot. We don’t have assigned parking, but I’ve been parking in that corner spot for over two years now. It’s like an unwritten rule that it’s mine. There are over 600 people in this building and it’s always been my spot. Until now. Now, someone has decided it’s theirs. Must be someone new in the building that gets here just before I do. So now I have to make ‘that face’ every time I pull in the parking lot.

I made the meal plan for the next four weeks. I asked for input from hubby as I was writing it up. What did he say? “Honey, I don’t know. I love whatever you make for dinner.” So, I finish and declare outloud that I’m done. At which point he says “Did you put breakfast for dinner in there? And don’t forget those pork chops that I like. And the brisket you made the other day was awesome … I’d like to have that again.” In answer to your question … no, I did not go back and change it. Anyway, the point of this is that getting in to the habit of making out a meal plan is hard. Like pulling out your eyelashes one at a time hard, but once you do, it’s so nice and I find that I keep my grocery bill down quite a bit too. If you’re not doing it, give it a try. Just do two weeks to start. And don’t throw them away. Once you have a few good plans in hand – just rotate them.

No joke. That is pure, 100% Elizabeth. She’s always like that. It makes me nutty.

Well, I don’t KNOW what you’re supposed to do with it. It’s a present. It’s always up to the gift recipient to figure out what to DO with it. LOL!!!

Wow, Elizabeth sounds like a neurotic nutjob. I could never plan my meals that far in advance.. I don’t even know what we’re having for dinner tonight. You’re right though, it would save a lot on groceries.

She’s a whack-job. And Casey – you’d be surprised … it helps a lot! Even if you just do a week at a time.

I need some paint to go out there and mark it “Reserved for Debbie Only!” … and I’ll head over and check out your site in a bit. I’ve been crazy busy at work lately but I’ll catch up!

Those emails are a little too detailed for me. I’ve been trying to plan meals for the week, 4 weeks would be a challenge. Good luck getting your parking spot back

Elizabeth is a little too detailed – period. Try a week at a time to get started. That’s how I did it … you’ll be surprised what a help it is.

I know. Each morning, I pull into the lot and have to make ‘that face’ all over again. I afraid my face is going to freeze that way!

If you plan out your meals, doesn’t that take the fun and the randomness out of it? Do you display your plan so that hubby is prepared for the tastes to come? Have you ever thought of just switching Tuesday for Thursday because you like Thursday’s meal better?

It does take the randomness out of it, but I’ve spent one too many a night at 5:00 pm standing in front of the open fridge wondering what in the world I’m going to feed my crew. And yes, actually, I do display it and it’s kind of amusing to watch the family come in and review it … sort of like when you got the school lunch menu for the month back in the day. I actually do flip days every now and again. And sometimes I just skip a meal all together and decide to go out instead – but that means the ingredients (especially the meat) is still there and I just plop it into the next plan.
